Ask and Believe and It Is Yours

Let me tell you a story.

I have mentioned many times in my writings that I am a grandfather, and that I am always amazed at the faith and confidence of my grandchildren. I am very grateful that they are still young enough to maintain their innocence.

I bring this up as I consider today’s text. It is very simple and forthright: Ask, Believe and Receive. It is much like my 4-year-old grandson who asked his Grandmother, my wife, for certain birthday presents and believes, without any hesitation, that she would get them for him and he would accept and enjoy these gifts. And Grandma moves heaven and earth to the best of her ability to fulfill our grandson’s desires.

So Jesus makes these same promises: Ask, Believe that you already have it and Receive.

But the devil stands on my shoulder and whispers in my ear.

Really? That is all there is to it?

And my mind provides the answer.

In the past my mind’s answer would have been, nothing is received that simply. Go get to work, put in a big day of physical work and you will receive your due.

But now, I consider, God created all things for His enjoyment, including me and you. And God wants all things including us to be the best, to survive and to not only survive but to…
