Children?

Today I am grateful to God for children…

Today was our son’s birthday. He is 38. Unbelievable.

When he was born his mother and I were 21. He and I have been more like brothers than father and son.

I can remember the day he was born pretty well. Not as well as Tammy but good enough. I still remember her grabbing me by the collar and telling me “You SOB if you ever do this to me again.”

That must have been in the heat of the battle. Kind of like when we were working hogs together. The rule was the no matter what I said or called my wife or children, I LOVED THEM. No matter what.

Like I said, “Children?”

I never planned on having a family, it happened mostly out of lust the first time even though it was planned or at least talked about. I never really thought about all the effort that having children required.

Today I listened to a podcaster talk about doing the thing that scared you the most as scary projects have the greatest rewards. As I time travel back to when I was a kid, I suppose that is true.

I was scared to death to ask my wife to marry me.

I was scared when the reality of being a father happened 38 years ago.

I was scared when our middle daughter was born.
