Children of the Free Woman
--
So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman. Galatians 4:31 ESV
Sermon notes
This sermon is the first time I have preached outside of my community. This is the first sermon that I have preached to a congregation that I have not met yet.
I know that they will have questions about who I am and why am I there.
And…
This day is not about me it is about what God wants them to hear through me. I am not the celebrity. I am my Father’s servant, and I am here to share His Word and to join them in His gifts of grace and mercy.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman. Galatians 4:31 ESV
Please join me on a journey back in time. Imagine that we are following A first century rabbi, as he is walking down a path studying the Old Testament, and he comes to a fork in the path and without thinking he takes the left fork and continues walking and studying.
And then…
He hears this booming voice ask 2 questions. Who are you? What are you doing here?
He looks around and continues down the path when; once again he hears…
“Who are you?”
“What are you doing here?”
The Rabbi looks again and then he sees up on the a nearby castle turret there stands an Roman Centurion.
The Rabbi asks the centurion this question: What do they pay you to ask those questions?
The centurion replies, “1 denarii a day.”
The Rabbi asks, “If I offered you double your wage would you come to my house every morning and ask me those two questions?”
“Who are you?” And “What are you doing here?”
Let’s take a look at “Who are you?”
Our epistle lesson from Ephesians 5:8 says: “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
