For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”

Butterflies require the effort of breaking out of the chrysalis to give them the strength to fly. Or so the legend goes.

Chicks need the effort of breaking out of the shell to develop the confidence it takes to survive in the world.

Children are born with great pain and effort. I believe that is why mothers are so attached to their offspring. It is also why mothers worry and go to great effort to keep their children from killing themselves or their siblings. The memory of the pain just hurts too much.

And the pain and effort to survive is the essence of many stories we are told. These stories imprint on our minds the great efforts that others have endured to get us to this point. Now it is our job to push through to the finish line.

It is also these stories that give us the hope that the reward at the finish line is worth the pain and struggle.
