Just Write Something Even If It Sucks

What to do when technology and even your fingers just do not want to write.

It has been a long time since I have written a story. At least a week has passed and I am frustrated.

My day job is very important to me. I am a farmer and rancher which means that my day job is my life. Seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day I am either planting, praying or harvesting wheat, corn or soybeans.

And just to keep life interesting I raise beef cattle. This keeps me fully employed.

Raising livestock in the Northern Plains of the USA is a busy job during the winter, when crop farmers are fixing equipment and hauling grain. I get to bundle up and feed livestock, too.

And these last seven days have been a combination of two activities that require all hands and minds at peak performance. Harvesting corn and weaning calves are two of the biggest tasks we face each fall and this year was no exception. Three inches of snow and temperatures hovering around zero degrees Fahrenheit slowed the efforts to a crawl. But we persisted. Quitting is not an option.
