Resting in God’s Hand

Get up and get to work, Tom. You can rest when you are dead.

Remember that lifestyle? Hustle and run. Fret and stew over this deadline or maybe your mind is already on the next deadline before this project is finished.

Where is the money gonna come from if I don’t do the work? How are we gonna make the mortgage payments on the farm if we don’t get the seed in the ground?

For the last month I have spent 10 to 14 hours a day operating a tractor; planting corn and then soybean seeds. This is a season filled with long days and plenty of lifting, climbing and rolling around in the dirt.

And the seeds are now in the ground and most of them are sprouted and growing. Yay, God!

What about rest?

One of the definitions of rest from dictionary.com is “refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor.”

Yes, I slept everyday during this planting season. But, did I really rest?

Most days: yes, I did get enough rest to refresh my spirit although I did notice that my body longed for more rest.
