Thirteen Secrets of Better Writing
2 min readJul 21, 2021
Psst! Let me whisper in your ear.
- Write something every day.
- Mark it on your calendar that you wrote something today. What is measured improves.
- Publish something every day. This doesn’t have to be or need to be what you wrote today.
- Practice a new writing skill every day. Want to write better headlines? Write the headline to your article 10 times in ten different ways.
- Write about what you know and enjoy.
- Experience new things. Did you try a new salad dressing? Did you go commando today?
- Read a lot.
- Copy what you read. One of the first lessons in copywriter school is to copy sales letters from the great copy writers. And not just copy but study as you copy.
- Talk to other writers. Reach out on social media. Email them. Comment on their Medium articles.
- Use editing tools. Grammarly or ProWriting Aid or you probably know of something better.
- Ask people to read your articles. Promote yourself. Yes, I know that this is difficult but if you don’t tell them how will they know?
- Write something everyday and mark it on your calendar
