‘The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. ‘ Romans 8:16–17 ESV

Inheritance does not seem to mean much in the USA. We prefer to believe in pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps and achieving our best life through our own best efforts.

Being born into the right lineage or having the right last name doesn’t seem to have that much bearing on who we will be when we grow up.

Or does it????

When God created our first parents, Adam and Eve, and placed them in the Garden of Eden He created them to be His children, to be His companions. He liked being able to be in the garden with them in the cool of the day, He looked forward to spending time with them. Everything was very good.

And He only had one rule, don’t eat from the trees of the knowledge of good and evil, but the punishment for breaking this rule would be to lose this perfect life, they would die.

And so, today we still suffer the consequences of our original parents, Adam and Eve, disobedience. We all will die someday. But then what will happen?

God, wants us to be His children, and so He sent His Son to live on earth with us. He sent His Son to be our Savior, to suffer God’s punishment of death for us. So that even though we will die, we can live eternally and be with God in heaven through His dear Son, Jesus Christ.

What does it require to be an heir of eternal life with Christ in heaven? Jesus said it himself: ‘Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. ‘ Mark 16:16

May I pray for you? Heavenly Father thank you for seeking for us as You seek for Your lost sheep. Lord, help us receive the faith to believe through Your Holy Spirit, and Lord, help me to find a congregation of faith to be baptized and adopted as Your child. Through, Your dear Son, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
